Expanded Thermoset BMC Molding
Thermoset BMC (Bulk Molding Compound) molding is not a new technology. Falco has integrated this capability and added on-site cold-room storage to expand our production capacity and better meet our customers' requirements. Combined with our existing capabilities, this addition provides a wider range of manufacturing opportunities for complex requirements.
Technical Requirements
Meter base performance—specifically UV exposure and high-amperage thermal loads—mandates the use of thermoset BMC. The material’s permanent chemical cross-linking provides the arc resistance and structural thermal stability (180–220°C) required for both smart meters and legacy designs.
To maintain material integrity, Falco has integrated on-site cold-room storage to stabilize chemical balance, prevent premature curing, ensure precise flow consistency for complex geometries, and reduce waste for high-volume orders.
Industry Specifications
Many utility-approved specifications designate BMC as the sole approved material. Falco provides a stable source for these "grandfathered-in" components, eliminating the need to revalidate materials.
Manufacturing Capacity
Falco operates thermoplastic injection molding machines ranging from 180 tons to 320 tons, with a total annual capacity of 830 tons. This is now supplemented by a thermoset capacity of 140 tons per year.
